About us


Association of fashion designers of Kenya AFADK is a registered organization with the societies Act. AFADK aim is to ensure that the fashion industry in Kenya is recognizable in the international map through: structuring of the industry within the community as well as incorporating Kenyan culture and heritage in the international fashion.
AFADK will ensure fashion business is a success and aim to foster creation of high quality products.

INTRODUCTION TO AFAD-K



  • AFAD has brought individuals in fashion careers together, working under a constitution, for the advancement of the profession. AFAD strives to unify fashion designers and other industry stakeholders under common ground to represent their ideals in one voice.
  • As the official agent and information hub in all matters fashion, AFAD is playing the pivotal role of assisting members to meet new people and establish networks of professional contacts, learn new techniques and technologies in fashion, land contracts, recruit suitably and show off designs.
  • We have forged partnerships with organizations like the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA); the apex body and single voice of the private sector boasting over 60 business members and countless other corporate organizations, whose strategic focus is advocacy on behalf of the private sector on high level national cross-cutting issues.
  • The strength in diversity on membership associations representing both large and small enterprises under one umbrella, is positioning AFAD as an equal partner with government, in pursuit of an enabling business environment. Our voice is not only heard locally but also regionally as we strive to make inroads internationally.
  • As a representative voice of our members, AFAD is ensuring that members needs and those of their stakeholders are properly reflected in our strategy.
  • AFAD facilitates conferences and workshops aimed at building capacity and empowering members. Entrepreneurship, quality control and quality assurance, trends, news and tips meetings allowing members to discuss new techniques and styles and ultimately holding fashion shows to showcase members garment designs and accessories among other similar benefits.
  • We are working towards establishing an ISO certification for the Fashion Industry. This certification will be informed and guided by a code of acceptable industry standard practices.
  • AFAD is promoting Kenyan culture and by extension the wider African culture with the aim of establishing a distinctive Kenyan fashion style. We are elevating fashion to the level of sports and music as a medium for sharing ideas and culture, inspiring change, building communities and to be enjoyed as a unique form of expression
  • Provide brand positioning and presence for Kenyan designers through a website that members can use to promote their skills and a host of other professionals that members can contact for branding and communication solutions advice. We are increasing access and participation.
  • By leveraging on the experience and expertise of the current leadership, AFAD is providing knowledge to ignite passion in the next generation of fashion designers, with the aim of introducing student to the industry, retain the current young talent and strengthen the knowledge base of this talent.

  • AFAD is supporting local initiatives and local talent especially women and other minority groups with the sole purpose stemming the exploitation of informal skilled labour while offering deserved remuneration.


 ROLE OF ASSOCIATION OF FASHION DESIGNERS OF KENYA
  • Provide accreditation framework and assessment to its members.
  • Promote excellence in the fashion industry by strengthening range of programmes and activities.
  • To be a national strategic body advising government, industry, education and the community on fashion related topics.
  • AFADK will be a source of designer referrals services.
  • Provide professional advice, design and legal information to its members.
  • Establish, uphold and enforce a high level of professional code/ethics and conduct amongst designers.
  • Be a platform for authoritative design research, knowledge, and information.
